Katie Stull, Owner
Katie began taking dance lessons at the age of 2 in Portage, Mi. She continued her training in Michigan for the next 16 years. Katie was involved in Dance Company for 6 years, quickly moving her way to Gold Company. Katie continued her dance training taking several workshops and master classes as well as studying at WMU where she also graduated with a degree in Psychology. Dance is such a passion for her and she loves the opportunity to touch so many lives through the art of dance! Ms. Katie loves every dancer as her own and has loved watching them all grow over the years!
Karly Fruehauf, Office Manager
Ms. Karly, our office manager, has been a part of the Excel family since 2008 when all 3 of her daughters began dancing here! She has loved being around the studio ever since and feels blessed to have such a fun and rewarding job. She has a Bachelor of Business Administration from WMU with over 20 years of experience. She loves getting to know the families and dancers at Excel!
Susan, Studio Relations Director
Ms. Susan started dancing at the age of 3 in IL at her hometown studio, Impact Dance Studio. She was a member of the WMU dance team for 4 years and graduated with a degree in Elementary Education. She spent two years teaching 2nd and 5th grade in Battle Creek, MI. This will be her 5th year teaching at Excel. She has decided to explore different options in the working world and is now working as Excel’s Studio Relations Director. We are so excited to have her join our team full time!
Kyla, Ballet Director
Ms. Kyla has danced her whole life and absolutely loves sharing her joy of dance with the Excel students. She has been classically trained in Russian ballet and trained with the Bolshoi Ballet, as well as ABT. She is also working as Excel’s Ballet Director. She loves working with her students at Excel and will miss everyone greatly as she and her family are moving to New Orleans next year. Our Excel family will miss her greatly!
Darby, Company Director
Ms. Darby has been dancing since the age of 2 and trained at Dance Dynamics Performing Arts Center for 16 years. She has auditioned for Broadway musicals and movies and was a finalist for the show “Billy Elliott” in both New York City and Toronto. She is currently pursuing a pre-law degree and plans to attend law school following graduation. She is also working as Excel’s Company Director. She loves being a part of Excel!
Ms. Olivia has been dancing since the age of 3. She trained for 12 years at Spotlight Dance Works in Chesterfield, MI. Her passion for dance continued into college where she spent 2 years dancing for the WMU Broncos. Olivia currently works in marketing at Stryker but absolutely loves that she can still help her students find their love and passion for dance!
Ms. Janelle found the world of dance at the age of 13 when she started taking classes at Excel. She was part of three performance teams, as well as XLR8. She loved performing for the Harlem Globetrotters and Disney World! Ms. Janelle was also a dedicated gymnast for 11 years and currently heads our tumbling program. She finds so much joy in combining the gracefulness of dance with the thrill of tumbling and is so happy being part of Excel’s family.
Ms. Skylar, a Michigan native started her prevalent dance training at age 4, focusing on the styles of Contemporary, Jazz, Ballet, Lyrical, and Hip Hop. Skylar has also had the opportunity to assist highly sought after choreographers including, but not limited to: Amanda Anderson, Tokyo, and Alvin Ramirez. Skylar has been instructing in the Lansing area for the past 5 years. Skylar’s versatile background and exuberant passion to be in a leadership role truly add to her talents as a dance teacher and choreographer. Skylar is happy to share her knowledge and love for dance with the kids at Excel Dance Center!
Ms. Cortney is in her first year at Excel and couldn’t be more excited! Coming from the east coast, she has spent time dancing in NYC including completing a year internship at Broadway Dance Center. She absolutely loves dancing and practicing acro but above all, she is a teacher. Cortney holds Module 1 & 2 certifications from Acrobatic Arts, a 300 hour Yoga teacher training, has a degree in Business Administration, and recently started her own LLC. She is obsessed with traveling and teaching across the country but loves building long-lasting relationships with her Michigan students, parents, and coworkers. Cortney is SO pumped to start the 2019-20 season!
Ms. Jess began dancing when she was 4 years old and came to Excel in 4th grade. She was a part of the Performing Company at Excel for 6 years. She now attends Western Michigan University in the nursing program. She was a member of the WMU dance team and loves being a part of the Excel dance family!
Ms. Jordan holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Dance and Political Science from Western Michigan University. At age two, she began her dance training under Liz Schmidt at Spotlight Dance Works. Jordan has participated in several summer dance intensives including The Joffrey Ballet Jazz and Contemporary Intensive, The Dance Sessions, Complexions Summer Intensive, and CLASS. She has had the opportunity to perform works by Peter Chu (Chuthis.), Ohad Naharin (Batsheva Dance Company), Meg Paul (Twyla Tharp/The Joffrey Ballet), Frank Chavez (River North Dance Chicago), Kirsten Harvey, Julie Bour, Liz Schmidt, Samantha Shelton (American Ballet Theatre), Sonya Tayeh (SYTYCD), Lauren Adams, and Brooke Pierotti. After graduation in 2017, Jordan moved to NYC where she worked for NYC’s acclaimed dance studio Downtown Dance Factory, and worked with artists such as Ashley Rich (SYTYCD). Jordan is glad to be back in Kalamazoo teaching and loves being apart of Excel dance family!
Ms. Leah has been dancing with Excel since the age of 5 and is so happy to be back in the teaching seat this time. Leah is currently attending WMU studying Psychology. She was able to teach dance while living in North Carolina and couldn’t wait to get back to teach at her home studio. Ms. Leah has also been a part of Hip Hop ConnXion and worked for American Ballet Theatre in Austin, Texas. She loves being back with the kids and can’t wait for next year!
Ms. Noelle trained at Rise Dance Center in Schaumburg, IL and has been dancing since the age of 3. She has worked with Chicagoland choreographers such as Trae Turner, Hannah Brictson, Angelina Familara and Karlo Familara. Noelle Is currently a student at Western Michigan University and is in the BFA dance program. Her studies focus mainly in Jazz, Ballet, and Modern, but growing up she has trained in 11 different styles of dance! At WMU, Noelle is also a member of the Hip Hop Connxion Michigan branch. Noelle is thrilled to start teaching at Excel and be part of our dance family! Noelle loves educating students about dance technique and dance history as well!

Connor has been dancing for 15 years. His dance career started at Patti Herm School Of Dance, where he became the first boy to graduate from the studio! Connor was accepted in the WMU Dance major program and decided to continue his dancing through the love of teaching. During his years at Miss Patti’s he performed is several nutcrackers where he played the parts of the Nutcracker, Snow King, and the Cavalier. Mr Connor attended several conventions and nationals where he took classes from talented dancers and performers such as, Twitch, from So You Think You Can Dance, and Anze Skrube, who is a dancer for the amazing Chris Brown. He so excited to be teaching and sharing all I have to share at Excel!

Ms. Kara was an original student at Excel! She started with us our first year and graduated as a senior! She kept up with her love of dance by teaching at the YMCA program and now has joined us to help with our students as well. Kara is currently a student at WMU majoring in social work and loves working with kids! She is so excited to be a part of the Excel team!
