Katie Stull, Owner
Ms. Katie graduated from Western Michigan University with a Child Psychology major and an Art minor. She also studied dance at Western for 4 years. She has trained throughout her career with Gus Giordano, Joe Tremaine, Darryl Retter, Wade Robson and many more.
Ms. Katie has received many awards and recognition for her training through Tremaine Dance, L.A. Underground, Showstoppers, Dance Educators of America and New York City Dance Alliance to name a few.
Ms. Katie is a very happily married wife to her husband Kyle, who is a chiropractor in Texas Corners, and an exhausted, yet loving mother of twins, Ella and Wyatt.
Ms. Katie is very passionate about her work with the students at Excel; her students and parents mean the world to her. She prides herself on having a studio that offers a friendly, inviting and loving environment where students can come get away and just have fun doing what they love, dance! She also is pleased to share that the studio, it’s music and costuming is age appropriate for every dancer. Ms. Katie is very excited to share her passion and love of dance with her students and looks forward to every new year!
Ginger, Office Assistant
Ms. Ginger comes to us from Blaine, Maine and is a lady of several hats here at Excel. In Maine, Ginger was a behavior Health Specialists for several years and has the tools needed to work with children and families which is her passion! Her title is office manager but if you ask any parent here they will tell you she is much more! She loves the bonds and relationships she has created here at Excel and always looks forward to meeting new families.
Emilee, Gym Teacher
Ms. Emilee grew up in White Lake, MI. She is currently a sophomore at Western Michigan University studying early education and am a member of the Bronco gymnastics team. Emilee has been a competitive gymnast since the age of 9 and can’t wait to help the dancers of Excel improve their tumbling! “I have a passion for kids and am always looking at the positive side of life!”
Sara C., Teacher
Ms. Sara is the artistic director of The =ibrium Dance Project, founded in the summer of 2012, which has shown work in IN, MI, NJ, NY, OH, and WI and internationally in Toronto, ON Canada. She has performed with Bill Evans Dance Company, Blue Tribe African Dance Company, Blythe Edens Dance Company, The Gran Lakou Haitian Folkloric Dance Company, Indy Convergence, The New Mexico Contemporary Dance Alliance, Motus Dance Theatre, SMAG Dance Collective, and is very excited to be performing with Wellspring Cori Terry & Dancers this fall.
Ms. Sara has served on faculty at Ball State University and Anderson University, has taught children of all ages for over a decade, and is certified in the Bill Evans Method of Teaching Laban/Bartenieff-Based Modern Dance Technique. She is currently working toward her MFA in Dance at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, where she is a recipient of the Chancellors Graduate Student Award, and received her BA in Dance from the University of New Mexico in 2003 with departmental honors and received the Friends of Dance Scholarship, The Provost Award for Artistic and Academic Achievement, The Bill Evans Dance Teachers Intensive Scholarship, and the Barbara Kiker Award for Excellence in Dance. She is so excited to share the love of dance with the students at Excel!
MiKayla Reid, Teacher
Ms. MiKayla has been teaching at Excel since 2012 and spent a majority of her youth training with Katie as a prior student. A recent graduate of WMU, MiKayla received her Bachelor of Science in child & family development, with minor studies in dance and business. She has trained with choreographers from Arizona to New York, including Joe Lanteri, Derrick Schrader, and Geo Hubela. In 2015, MiKayla continued her dance education by attending the Dance Life Teacher Conference in Scottsdale, AZ.
Ms. MiKayla is currently completing her training as a Certified Family Life Educator. When she’s not at the studio, you can find her working as an office coordinator for a local non-profit organization. MiKayla loves being an office coordinator by day and a dance teacher by night!
Ms. Stefanie has been dancing since the age of 3 and competed for several years earning many awards. She started her dancing at Excel in 2005 where she trained with Ms. Katie for several years and became an official team member in 2011. Ms. Stefanie currently specializes in Pre-School classes up to level 1 and has a huge heart for kids.
Ms. Megan started dancing at the age of 5 and spent most of her years dancing competitively at Star Struck Dance center and Michelle’s Academy of Dance. She is currently a Junior at Western Michigan University with a double major in Dance and Psychology and also a part of Hip-Hop Connexion and the Western Dance Project. She loves sharing her passion of dance with others and is very happy to be a part of the Excel family!
Sarah T., Teacher
Sarah has been dancing since she was 3 years old. While growing up in Portage, she danced and competed with local studios and was a part of Dance Inc. company teams. She has trained with Showstoppers, Tremaine and Company Dance. She also continues her dance training at local conventions each year. Sarah loves sharing her passion for dance with our students watching them grow!
Laura graduated from Oklahoma City University where she earned a Bachelor of Performing Arts Degree in Dance Performance. She has worked on cruise ships, in Las Vegas and primarily, in the musical theatre world of New York City. Credits include the national tours of Crazy For You, Beauty and the Beast and My Fair Lady. She has also worked in regional theatre across the country, modeled for “Dance Spirit” Magazine and most successfully, performed as a Radio City Rockette at Radio City Music Hall.
As a Radio City Rockette, she has performed on The Tony Awards with Hugh Jackman, Good Morning America, The Today Show, Rockefeller Center’s Tree Lighting Ceremony and The Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. She has done several interviews, including with NBC’s Campbell Brown and has taught GMA’s Kate Snow what it takes to be a Rockette. She also served as Assistance Dance Captain and Swing in 2005.
Laura has taught master classes in Virginia, Kansas, Michigan and at regional Dance Competitions. She has also taught many Rockette Experiences in New York City. She recently taught adjunct at both Wayne State University and Oakland University. Laura is married to Greg and the proud mother of Ella, Oliver and Harper. She is a Stott Certified Pilates Instructor and also the owner of Centered Pilates in Kalamazoo.
Ms. Avery, Teacher
Ms. Ashley has been dancing since the age of 2 and studied at Ballet Arts in Kalamazoo. She is currently a double major at WMU in Dance and Interdisciplinary Health Services. Her love is Ballet and Pointe but she also enjoys teaching Lyrical and Jazz. Ashly is a 3rd year WMU dance team member and loves sharing her passion with our students. She looks forward to inspiring students at Excel and helping them grow!
Karly Fruehauf, Office Manager
Ms. Karly has been a part of the Excel family since 2008 when all 3 of her daughters began dancing here! She has loved being around the studio ever since and has been thrilled to now be on staff in the office. She has a Bachelor of Business Administration from WMU with over 15 years of experience. She loves getting to know the families and dancers at Excel!
Olivia Klein, Teacher
Ms. Olivia trained at Spotlight Dance Works in Chesterfield, MI and has been dancing since the age of 4. She has been lucky to work with choreographer such as Travis Wall, Sonya Tayeh, Lauren Adams, Dana Wilson and Jason Parsons.
Ms. Olivia was a WMU team dance member for 2 years and focused her studies on Jazz, Contemporary, Hip-hop, Ballet and Tap. She is currently a Communication major with a minor in Political Science and Management. She loves teaching dance and enjoys all the students and families at Excel!
Jennifer Pfifer, Teacher
Ms. Jennifer has been dancing since the age of 3. She recently had the opportunity to dance in California and take hundreds of classes with choreographers Nika Kljun, Alex Little, Erica Sobol, Travis Wall, and many more. Her biggest accomplishment so far was able to sign with one of the eight dance agencies in Los Angeles. Being sent to multiple auditions, the most extreme being the Madonna 2015/2016 tour kept me motivated to continue being true to myself.
Jennifer is now back home attending Western Michigan University’s Department of Dance, and could not be more thrilled to also be a part of the Excel team. Since the age of 8, she has trained with many choreographers including Calen Kurka and Chris Hale who created the dance company *:pushing progress* in New York, along with Chicago choreographer Angelina Grima who toured with Kanye West and is featured in Justin Bieber’s movie. Jennifer received her first dance scholarship to London from the convention New York City Dance Alliance when I was 9 years old. She loves teaching and inspiring students to be the best they can be!
